Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” DVD Contest
CONTEST CLOSED – MARCH 17, 2010
My wife, KayEm, was thrilled when Disney announced that they would make a movie featuring an African-American princess.
I asked her why she was so happy about this movie’s release.
“I’ve watched Disney movies all of my life,” she said. “And this is the first time that the main character has looked like me. I’m happy that our daughter is able to see an African-American girl portrayed on-screen in a positive light.”
After the saw the film in the theater, she and my daughter, Nee, raved about it for weeks.
That is why I was so excited when Bazan PR offered me the opportunity to give away three “The Princess and the Frog” DVDs.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the movie, here is a brief synopsis:
Magic, music and romance are waiting around every corner of the legendary Big Easy as Disney’s newest princess sets out on an exciting adventure through a magical new world. Tiana (voiced by Anika Noni Rose) is a beautiful and hardworking young woman who is determined to fulfill her father’s dream of owning an elegant New Orleans supper club. When Naveen (Bruno Campos), a handsome prince arrives in town looking for romance, the evil Dr. Facilier (Keith David) hatches a nefarious plot and turns Naveen into a frog. A kiss from Tiana should return him to his true form, but in a hilarious twist on the classic story, she is instead transformed into a frog herself! The pair must travel into the heart of the mysterious Louisiana bayou with only a trumpet-playing alligator and a love-struck firefly as guides to find the priestess who can reverse the curse in order to find their “happily ever after.”
The single disc DVD comes with these exciting bonus features:
- Deleted Scenes
- Audio Commentary by John Musker and Ron Clements (co-writers and directors) and Peter Del Vecho (producer)
- “Never Knew I Needed”- Music video by Ne-Yo
- Games and Activities
- What Do You See: Princess Portraits — A bayou-style quiz tests viewers’ knowledge of all of Disney’s beautiful princesses. Ray’s firefly family creates twinkling portraits of each princess and if the player correctly identifies her, they can enjoy a tongue-cheek mini re-telling of that character’s story.
“The Princess and the Frog” Single Disc DVD is priced at $29.99 (US) and $35.99 (Canada). The Blu-ray Disc is priced at $39.99 (US), and $44.99 (Canada) and the Blu-ray Combo Pack is priced at $44.99 (US) and $51.99 (Canada). STREET DATE: March 16, 2010.

My favorite animated film is Coraline (it was actually princess and the frog until I recently saw Coraline).
I’m a hop skip and a jump away from New Orleans (45mins away). Like a second home for us, we love to visit all the things we don’t have in my city (museums, riverwalk, Bourbon St.).
Fav: Iron Giant, because it’s bad to kill but it’s not bad to die.
I’ve never been to New Orleans, but seeing as this is for a Disney product how about my favorite part of Disneyland’s New Orleans Square? I’m going to have to go with the Mickey-shaped Beignets: powdered sugar, raspberry coulis and vanilla bean creme anglaise. Tasty.
I enjoyed the animated film “Cars”! Thanks for the chance to win!!

I commented on the The Secret to Raising Smart Kids post! Thanks! 2
My favorite movie was The Little Mermaid. She was the first princess to feel real to me. Ariel was funny and smart and also flawed. She made mistakes. Additionally she was the first princess that didn’t sit around waiting for the prince to find her.
I’ve never been to NO. I used to have a best friend from there though. Se spoke fondly of growing up on the bayou. I also have an internet friend who is an economics professor in NO. I’d love to get the opportunity to visit someday. I used to think it would be fun and crazy to attend Mardi Gras.
Whit has made me hungry.
Beignets with Vanilla bean creme anglais sound heavenly. I’d be willing to come to Nawlins anytime for that.
Thank you for the giveaway.
Your dog is (if she hasn’t run away) a beagle named Ginger.

My favorite thing about New Orleans is the people’s accents. I know that may seem strange, but I love languages and experiencing different cultures. And, my favorite animated film is Beauty and the Beast because of the incredible detail and talent that the artists put into creating Belle’s dress and the castle.

My favorite animated film is Shrek. I’d say the first one more than the rest, but I did enjoy the others as well. It is one of the few animated films that all my children enjoy. I have 6 ranging in age from 15 months to 15 years old. The animation and music keep my young one’s entertained and it has enough, what I call “adult humor”, for us older one’s to enjoy.
I’ve never been big on animated films, but I really love The Emporer’s New Groove – it’s great for kids and parents. That perfect mix of snarky and sweet.
We saw The Princess and the Frog at Christmas time. It was the first theater movie for both of our kids, so a special experience. We’d love to win one. :0)
I interviewed a local chef recently who recently lived in New Orleans. He talked about it being one of the main culinary capitols in the US. I would love to visit New Orleans and visit all of the incredible restaurants there!

I commented on your post about Demi Lavato and Jonas Brothers concert/rodeo.
One of my favorite RECENT animated movies would have to be UP, although my kids would probably say BOLT.
My favorite animated film has always been Bambi, it’s such a tragic but heartwarming story and was one of the first movies I remember from my childhood.

My favorite animated movie is Snow White simply because both of my kids adore it!
thanks!
What is your favorite animated film and why? : I think that my favorite of all time has to be The Lion King (this was def pre- Princess and the Frog) because it was so culturally relevant..talking about the circle of life….etc…I loved that movie.
What is your favorite thing about New Orleans and why (if you’ve never visited, explain what you would do/see if you could visit)? New Orleans is just SO BEAUTIFUL and culturally rich. The food is amazing..the history is there..esp for African Americans…it’s a musical magical city full of lush and colorful people. I love that it’s a tiny special “country” within a country..French/African and American all at once!
My Favorite is Cinderella. Disney’s beautiful vivid colors and always a good moral message is a Winner in my book!

My favorite animated movie to watch with my kids and wife is Open Season, because it is the most masculine movie that we have. If we watch the princess varities like this one, I undoubtedly end up wearing a makeshift crown of some sort. Maybe if we win and watch this one, I can be the crocodile or the frog.
Never been to New Orleans, but I hear they have some of the best seafood fare and bluesy jazz music.

My favorite is Toy Story…that’s considered animated right???
ohh New Orleans! My Dad’s side of the family is from Baton Rogue but I when I visited New Orleans the first time as a adult I was amazed at all the families enjoying the parades! The image is that is not for families but kids can really get a kick out of New Orleans too. I can’t wait to take my daughter when she older!
Natalie A. was the first to correctly answer the question: What is Mocha Dad’s dog’s name? She gets five extra entries.
