Each year, I’m at a loss as to what to get my wife, mother, and sister for Mother’s Day. My usual fallback gift is jewelry. All women like jewelry right? Wrong! My wife had to specifically request that I don’t buy her any jewelry ever again and I can’t remember the last time I saw my mother or sister wear any of the jewelry I bought them.
What’s a man to do?
This year, I decided to be proactive and ask other moms what they wanted for Mother’s Day. Fellas, if you’re in the same boat that I am, I recommend that you read these requests and apply them as needed. They may save your life.
What Moms Really Want for Mother’s Day
Honestly, I don’t want a single thing. If I was forced to choose then I will say a mini HP laptop (if money was no issue). Otherwise I would like a summer tolerant flowering plant in a pretty pot. I am simple like that. – Sheliza
I don’t WANT anything material. I feel silly asking for material things; I already have everything I want or need. When moms say they want peace and quiet, it’s true. I want a relaxing day, with my family, but I don’t want them to have any pressure to “make me have” a great day. I want to take a break from all the running around that I do, and CHILL OUT. Honest: that’s it! – Melisa
New furniture would do it for me! – Candie
No gift cards – gift cards suck when they come from your husband. And no flowers, because they just go ahead and die, and PLEASE no chocolate, and we both know why on that one. Instead, try to think about the things I like. . .if all else fails, which it usually does, just ask me – Maria (read her post Dear Husband, Mother’s Day is coming. I’ve made it easy for you. You’re welcome. Love Me. for more ideas)
I just want my husband to take care of the kids all day for Mother’s Day… who needs more “stuff”? Service is the way 2 my heart. – Sarah
Sleep and lots of it, and maybe a some jewelry – Jayde
A kid free day filled with a massage facial, margaritas and naps. – Wenylla
I want quiet time…and a trip to the beach with an ice cream cake. – mommaof4wife2r
For my husband and son to treat me special – to remember something I like – doesn’t need to involve money. To not be taken for granted ranks right up there at #1!! – Carma
I’d like to not have to make plans of any kind, schedule anyone to be on time any where. I want to sleep late and not be asked for anything. I will probably do a lot anyway, but I don’t want to be expected to. – Carol
Breakfast In bed and the ability to sleep in. A few hours to myself. A clean house. Dinner out with hubby and the kids. – Kelly
A DSLR camera. – Jenni
Sleep. A day off from the kids. No cooking, cleaning, or peanut butter anything. – Lauren
A day off with my guys where I don’t have to do *anything*. – Karen
A foot massage – Kathy
A weekend away with the girls to Sacramento or Vegas! – Lori
Some quiet time alone – a spa afternoon getting a massage, mani/pedi. – Maria
