I love that story! Thanks for stopping by my blog today and sending me your way to read this post. I so appreciate the thoughtfulness. Tonight at dinner we had another discussion about a girl who has been bullying a friend of Em's. Giving her the tools to stand up to the bully and not to take the "crap". Parenting is hard, not knowing when to get involved and when not to. At age 9 I think she needs to learn how to stand on her own but knowing her parents are supporting her and there for her!

Thanks again! Tammy

Love this article. My daughter had a little girl "bully" her in kindergarten this year and it was tough. I like the way you handled the situation with your daughter - very creative and effective! Great job!

One of our favorite books is Clever Beatrice. I like the idea of using the same spirit of smarts and tenacity to see your way through something. I am grateful we haven't had too much bully activity, but I'll be keeping this entry bookmarked.

Oh, and should it ever happen, put a little hip into it, eh?

Great post! As a parent of a young child, you're always tempted to jump in and help out your baby when things like this happen. I completely agree with your approach and love the story you wrote. Teaching your child how to solve their own problems, rather than solving it for them, goes a long way towards building their confidence and self-esteem.

oh wow, that is so cute! We have had several episodes when my daughters were younger and they were being bullied in a way that threats were made. Because it got to that point we contacted the administrators at the school and let them know that our child is a black belt in karate and has our full permission to use it if they felt they were threatened. They then had the guidance counselor come in and met with the kids. Problem solved. The culprit was jealousy from the bully toward my kid.
