We would NEVER have qualified for our little boxer if we’d tried to get him from the rescue. Those people would rather keep 40 dogs in their back yard than give one to a couple who live in an apartment. It’s crazy.

Especially since we are very active and he gets walked twice a day now.

Oh a beagle!!! We had one when I was little. I loved that dog. Unfortunately my mom decided to find a home for it after several times of having to clean poo off our shoes… We also used the petfinder and dog rescue sites to find a dog (and I think we were turned down too – they won’t adopt if you have a young child)! Congrats on the dog.

Congrats on getting a dog! I’ve always had dogs and love every one of them!

Don’t feel too bad about the breed rescue turning you down. I have owned dogs all of my life and tried to adopt a Pomeranian from the Pom Rescue near Houston. I was turned down essentially because I work. I wasn’t going to be home enough during the day. This was even though I had neighbors across the street and down the street that always would go take care of my dogs during the day. The breed rescues seem a little TOO strict if you ask me!

Congrats on the dog and the blog. I own a distant cousin to your beagle, a long-haired dachshund named Peanut Butter — a very loyal and loud little dog who’d eat the floor if he could. My son named him when he was about 8 years old. Interesting post — I’ve been thinking of writing about him a lot as of late.

I have always had a dog. I had Ginger once too. Congradulations. On a side note, I used to play tennis with Charles Schultz’s daughter in law. She gave me some Peanuts art work that she had laying around her garage. Neat stuff, but unfortunately no Snoopy pictures.

Dude, I am really hating right now. The only kind of dog I want is a Beagle but my son is deathly afraid of all dogs. He gets that from my side of the family, but not me. Enjoy the new member of your family – I’m sure she’s great!

That’s awesome! I’m glad you found a dog to take home and I’m sure you guys will provide a great home.
The name Ginger holds a special place in my heart. When I was growing up, my grandparents had a golden retriever and she was an awesome dog. Looking for those pictures!

Big pet people! We have 3 dogs and 3 cats – although I only like one of the felines. Talking about them would take up more room than this comment box would allow. They’re spoiled, even the cats I don’t like.

We’re looking for a dog, too. We had heard about those rescue organizations, but I’m not sure if I like the idea of someone coming to my house to evaluate us!
